Sick Days

The problem with sick days is that when you have to take them, you're too sick to enjoy them. On days when I'm perfectly healthy, but tired of being at work, I sometimes find myself daydreaming about sick days. I imagine myself happily laying on the couch, under a cozy blanket, watching Sister, Sister, sipping ginger ale, and napping as I please. My imagination completely leaves out the part about being sick, and just imagines a lazy day off.

Of course the reality of sick days is that they are full of wadded up tissues everywhere, frustration over feeling like crap, and the inability to sleep due to illness.

But even though I was sick all weekend (as well as today), the weekend wasn't a total bust. From the comfort of my own bed, I was able to:

* Reconnect with a childhood best friend - thank you Mark Zuckerberg!
* Watch the entire fourth season of Psych - thank you $14.99 sale at Target!
* Stay in touch with friends without having to use my scratchy voice - thank you internet!
* Feel loved and thought of by some of you who messaged me to see if I needed anything (the answer is yes, now get over here, stat)!

But enough about being sick. I'm sure you're tired of hearing about it and I'm tired of talking about it. Well, that's not true. I'm not tired of talking about it. But since I know you're tired of hearing about it, I will move on to the next thing on my mind today, and that is: SNOW!!!

We're supposed to get LOTS of it tomorrow night. Depending on where you're getting your information, we're supposed to get somewhere between 8 and 16 inches of snow tomorrow night and into Wednesday. Can you say "snow day?"

The realist in me is worried about driving in it, cleaning off my car, and possible power outages. The rest of me is excited about it. We haven't gotten that much snow all at once in a long time. To my midwest and east coast friends - are you excited about it or dreading it?

Ok, that's my quick post for today. Time to get back to Sister, Sister and napping (translation: attempting to sleep this headache away until I have to get ready for my doctor's appointment)!

Ooof. Being sick is the worst! I'm always worried about the things I'm missing or falling behind on, too. Yeesh. I really hope you feel better soon! As for the snow, I honestly feel like I might have a complete meltdown (no pun intended) with this snowstorm. I can't put into words how much I'm hating snow this year, and hope that I am far away from the "snow belt" of Michigan next year at this time!!! Ugh. Sorry, that was waaaaay negative... In order to try to cope, I've been thinking about buying some hot dogs, grilling 'em up George Foreman-style, and eating them with some potato salad, with ice cream (in a cone!) for dessert. Maybe I'll lay a blanket out on my living room floor and watch "Sandlot" or "Summer Magic" with my radiator and space heaters cranked up. Take THAT winter storm!!

I prefer having sick days on the weekend, so I don't miss work. Not that I don't mind taking a day off, but a weekday with nothing to do but blow my nose is soooo boring!

More snow tomorrow? I hope there's a lot. I'm glad I live 5 miles from my office and that I don't live in Grand Rapids.

I know what you mean about sick days sounding nice until you actually have one. And since so much of my work can legitimately be done from home, I also have a hard time feeling like I can take a legitimate sick day. I guess I feel like if I'm conscious enough to watch a movie, then I ought to be conscious enough to read an academic paper or something. I'll inevitably choose the movie because I feel crummy and don't want to read an academic paper anyway. But then I'll spend my sick day feeling like I'm procrastinating instead of what I'm really doing, which is being sick. Ugh.

I hope you feel better soon!

Getting sick for a crazy long time in the winter is like a regular thing for you, isn't it? Feel better, but enjoy the Sister, Sister reruns while they last, sister (HA!). As for the snow, I'm excited about it, even though I don't think we get snow days at my job and the blizzard will probably just make things difficult.

Oh, and anonymous is really me, not knowing how to use a new phone.

Really sorry you're sick! Three people I know got sick after me, which makes me feel guilty...hope I didn't pass anything along. :(

I think Boston (and Kalamazoo, actually) has made me think that 8 inches of snow isn't that much. I'm hoping for 16. And I suppose I deserve to get hit next time you see me just for saying that.
