Wednesday Thoughts

I have so many thoughts about dating lately, I don't even know where to begin. Are you tired of dating posts? Be ready later this week for some dating Q and A. Or least, attempts at A's. But probably mostly Q's. So start thinking about A's because I need them. (Confused yet?)

But since today is Wednesday, I'll keep it light.

So, you know how much I love James Franco, right? But as far as celebrity crushes are concerned, the Rock is totally next in line. Yes, I know - all of his acting is done with his eyebrows. But come on. I watched part of the Tooth Fairy last night and became smitten once again with the Rock. (No, I didn't just sigh.)

Oh no. I was just looking for an image from the Tooth Fairy to go along with this post and found some posters that say things like, "The tooth hurts" and "You can't handle the tooth." It was almost enough to turn against the movie. Awful, just awful. I'm still going to finish that movie tonight though. And I can pretty much guarantee I'm going to love it.

You know, when I started this post, I had no idea is was going to turn into some kind of stalker post about the Rock. I better turn this baby around before it's too late.

Have you guys seen this video of Salma Hayek's snake freak out? I'd have to highly recommend it. I'm scared of snakes too but I'm not "Salma Hayek scared of snakes."

Ok, here's my last thought. I found this amazing brownie recipe on someone's blog recently. It calls for 1 package of low fat brownie mix, 1 can of black beans (rinsed then pureed with one cup of water) and chocolate chips. Did you catch the black beans in there? Let me tell you, these brownies are divine. Trust me. You would never know they have black beans in them. Do you have a recipe with a secret healthy ingredient in it? Please share!

Happy Wednesday.

Above It

Darn this pride of mine! Remember when I told you a little while back about that Pierce Brosnan movie that was going to be filmed next door to my office building sometime in May? Well, sometime in May has arrived but I'm ruining every chance I get to see Pierce because of my stubborn refusal to gawk!

For some foolish reason, I think I'm above gawking. Today at the end of the work day, we got notification that the film crew was going to be setting up a fake telephone booth in our driveway. My first thought was:

Ohmygosh, that's right by the bike rack - where my bike is. I might see Pierce! Don't blow this! Act cool.

So I did just that. I walked out, put my bike helmet on and rode off, not craning my neck in the slightest to catch a glimpse of Pierce. Cool as a cucumber. It required a lot of effort, I can't lie. And what did I gain? Nothing!

As I rode by the set, I saw a bunch of bystanders taking pictures of the set and the cast with their cell phones and I thought, "pf! They are so uncool but they don't even know it." But another part of me was screaming, "pull your bike over and take a picture! You are not above this and you know it!"

As I was riding home, I realized I have worked or lived within two blocks of where three major movies have been filmed in the past two years - but have I gawked at all? No. Do I regret not gawking? Yes! Last winter, I even walked practically through a scene but didn't look to see who was in it. Later I found out it might have been Andy from the office. Andy! And I didn't look! What a fool!

One of my older coworkers has Pierce fever right now. She's sort of a free spirit and of foreign descent. She keeps telling us that she's going to kiss Pierce if she sees him. We keep telling her not to, but she's a woman with a mission. As I said bye to her today, she said, "if I kiss Pierce, I will call you." I said, "don't bother, I'm sure I'll hear about it on the news."

I had no idea last night that my biggest problem today would be trying to get Pierce Brosnan to think I'm cool. Life's full of surprises.

Wednesday Thoughts

My weekly jumble of mostly unrelated thoughts.

I sometimes refer to the year 2010 as 0-10 which I know is not correct. I got used to putting an 0 in front of the number and I can't stop.

Speaking of dates, tomorrow is April Fools Day. Are you planning any pranks? This may surprise you, but I'm not a big fan of pranks. Or rather, I'm not very good at them. I absolutely can't keep a straight face and it ends up being much too much work. (Maybe by saying that, I'm just trying to throw you off the scent.)

So, a guy friend of mine recently told me that I should write a blog post explaining women, and what we want. For obvious reasons, this is an impossible task. But I want to throw this out there: to my male readers, if you have questions about women, leave a comment and I'll do a post at some point answering your questions! This could be fun.

And lastly, last week a location director visited my office building. He said they will be filming a movie across the street from our building in a couple months and might want to use our building for part of it. The movie stars Pierce Brosnan (and the location director said we will probably see him). Although it also stars some equally famous co-stars, I went temporarily deaf after he said Pierce Brosnan. Pierce Brosnan was my first celebrity crush when I was a kid - I thought he was sooo handsome when I saw him on Remington Steele (which I was not allowed to watch but managed to catch glimpses of). Who was your first celebrity crush?

Happy Wednesday.

Blood Lust

Of all the creepy, spooky, lurking things out there, vampires are consistently on top when it comes to hottness. But who's the hottest of them all? There are so many options - there are at least two or three vampire shows on this season, not to mention the movies and books about vampires. When I was a teenager, my favorite movie was The Lost Boys, a vampire movie featuring some of the hotties of that time period. And I'm pretty sure Brad Pitt was a vampire in the 90's. But for my money, these are the top three contenders for hottest vamp:

Spike. Spike, Spike, Spike... In my opinion, he's the winner. He's definitely my favorite character from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. His attitude, his humor, his personality, his bad boy persona, his disregard for rules, his physical strength, etc.... Spike's hot.

Angel -Also from BTVS, Angel's a close second and at times almost beats Spike. But although his looks are more classically attractive, Spike's attitude makes him hotter (in my opinion). Angel's brooding and sensitivity do make him a contender though.

Edward - I'm not going to post a picture of Robert Pattinson because I can't stand him as Edward. I'm talking about the Edward in the book. He's hot, sensitive, loving, lonely, brooding, etc... He's basically number one in the Twilight books (after Jake).

What do you think? In the spirit of Halloween, who's your favorite vampire? Is your favorite on this list?

To shave or not to shave...

Look, I'm going to just apologize in advance for blogging about Magnum again. I promise this will be the last time. But, of my celebrity crushes, he is the most controversial of them, by far. There's just something about Magnum. Not Tom Selleck, mind you. Magnum.

Today at work, somehow the topic of Magnum came up. I'm pretty sure I did not bring it up, although I'm sure some will claim I did. Anyway, Kathy hadn't known about my Magnum crush and was pretty shocked by it. Our conversation went something like this:

Kathy: Magnum, really!?
Me: Yes.
Kathy: What about the chest hair!?
Me: Yes.
Kathy: Ewwwwww!!!!!
Justin: I have no idea what Monica saw in him.
Me: Hey!!

This all led to a conversation about body hair. We were very divided on men's body hair, with me being against soul patches and goatees, and them being against beards and chest hair (I am a for both of those). We all agreed on mustaches though (no, at least, not if you're under 45 - I think it's a generational thing). We also agreed completely on women's body hair (how do some women not shave their legs?!).

So I decided to poll some of my friends tonight. I didn't give them any explanation before starting the poll, I just asked them if I could ask them a few questions for my blog. About two questions into the poll, Christi said, "Are you blogging about Magnum again!?" Sarah had a funny reaction too. She answered all the questions (solidly against all body hair on men), but when I said, "this post is going to be about Magnum, by the way," she said, "Oh, well Magnum is a totally different story! He's the exception." Katherine felt the same way. So without further ado, here are the results:

The type is very small, so to clarify, the first question was chest hair, yes or no, the second was goatee, then soul patch, followed by mustache and finally beard. What do you think?

I recently told someone that I should make myself wait 24 hours before posting the things I write on my blog. When I told this to Katherine later, she told me that would take all the fun out of it. This is the kind of post where I hope she was right.

Come on now

Is there anything more ridiculous than the news headline,

"Miley Cyrus spotted 'full-on making out'"?

Here's an excerpt from this juicy story:

Last Wednesday, as Cyrus bid Australian actor Liam Hemsworth goodbye at the Nashville airport, the two kissed -- and were "full-on making out," says Alex Emanuel, a New York actor who was a few feet away from the couple and saw Cyrus, 16, act "as giddy as a schoolgirl."

What!? A 16 year old was acting as giddy as a school girl!? Unimaginable! I'm so disillusioned!

But the plot thickens - according to what I can only assume is a story stolen from Miley's high school newspaper, Miley has apparently been claiming she's single in her Twitter status!

People have a tendency to say "must be a slow news day" when this kind of story comes out, but that's not true. There's never a slow news day. There are horrible, amazing, and wonderful things happening all around the world every day. I don't understand how a story like this was literally a headline on the news.

And yes, I know I clicked on the story, but for purely mocking purposes! (Plus, I thought Miley was dating one of the Jobros! Boy was my face red.)

Eye Candy

With "Transformers" coming out this week, Kathy and I got talking about the movie and more specifically, Shia LeBeouf. Shia becomes my celebrity flavor of the week whenever a new Transformers comes out. Kathy even told me my tone when talking about him was inappropriate for work. I mentioned this to someone else and they said, "really!? Shia LeBeouf!?" But I know I'm not the only one with an eye for Shia. Which is why I'm going to the drive-in to see Transformers tonight even though one critic said:

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" -- the most terrible revenge since Montezuma's -- is louder, longer and lamer than the 2007 hit it succeeds."

I'm seeing it anyway. Because that's what you do for your celebrity crush, right? You support them in their movies - good and bad (well, that, and I was outvoted about what movie we're seeing tonight but for Shia, I'll concede).

This isn't the first time I've seen a bad movie purely because of the eye candy - there was Race to Witch Mountain for the Rock, Leatherheads for George Clooney and John Krasinski, and others I probably shouldn't mention dating all the way back to Young Guns II.

What do you think? Is Shia worth it tonight? Have you ever seen a movie you knew was going to be bad just for the eye candy?

Wednesday Thoughts

Is it just me, or is Sean Connery just getting better with age? I was at my friend Sarah's the other day and did a double take when I saw this picture on a magazine on her coffee table. Sarah confessed to not being able to take her eyes off it herself and later sent me a link to the picture. The man is 78! 78! Well. 78 never looked so good.

There is quite an age difference between us, but with my birthday coming up, I am closing that gap. Although I suppose he will also have a birthday this year so technically I guess I'm not really be closing the gap. Remember when you were a little kid and you thought that eventually you'd catch up with your older siblings or friends in age? I guess we forgot that they too had birthdays. Of course I never did that, but I saw other kids do it.

I feel bad for my guy friends who read my blog because I posted yet another picture of a good looking man and asked you all to weigh in. I suppose I should post a picture of a woman too, but I have no idea who might be a semi-controversial women to ask about. Any suggestions? Sophia Loren? She came to mind because she's around the same age as Sean Connery. Maybe Madonna? Dang, Madonna would be so mad at me if she knew I put her in the same category as two people twenty years (plus) older than her, but I don't know. She came to mind. That's all I'm saying.

As long as we're talking about age here, I should add that I un-subscribed myself from those AARP e-mails. Hilarious, whoever signed me up for those!

Alright, I'm cutting myself off. Wednesday thoughts can get out of control if I don't rein it in. Happy Wednesday guys!

Wednesday Thoughts (part 2)

As some of you know, last Wednesday I posted some things I had to get off my chest. They were a mix of questions I wanted to pose to the universe. Some of you responded with answers that were quite insightful - especially about Cement City which is apparently owned and operated by my (and Emily's) extended family (ok, that's a gross exaggeration). Anyway, this week I have more to get off my chest, so here goes.

Is it wrong to have a crush on Magnum PI? I say definitely not. Not Tom Selleck. Magnum PI. There's a huge difference. My friend Kathy said that she finds his chest hair in the picture I posted gross. However, she didn't mention his mustache, which leads me to believe that she's a huge fan. I'm going to post a poll on the side and you guys can weigh in. (Only the most important topics on this blog!)

And while we're on the subject, which show had a better theme song, Magnum or the A Team?

In an unrelated thought, when playing Dr. Mario against your dad, should you let him win? Or at least not drop so many do-do-do-doots?

Also, who submitted my name to receive those AARP e-mails? Very funny, whoever you are.

Lastly, am I too young to become a snowbird? But what if I really hate winter? Can exceptions be made?

Summer thoughts

I was tempted to write (again) about the movie being filmed nearby because Michael Cera was there on Monday, but I am trying to avoid turning my blog into a People magazine - the Michigan edition. :) So I thought I'd write about something else. (Notice I snuck that celebrity spotting in here while at the same time claiming that I'm trying to avoid doing that?)

Moving on...Yesterday, for the first time this summer, I made it over to Washtenaw Dairy. As most of you know, this place is known not only for its delicious ice cream, but also for its generous servings. I got a peanut butter brownie SINGLE scoop (pictured above) and look how ginormous it is! Also, look at that delicious strip of peanut butter on the lower right side. It was so good. Granted, I could only finish about a quarter of it but it was heavenly.

As I was eating the ice cream cone, I started wondering if there was anything else I had to do before the summer's over. We still have one more month of summer, so I have a little time left to make and accomplish some goals. So, off the top of my head, here's a list of things I still want to accomplish this summer.

1) Have a summer romance (see earlier post for expectations on this subject)
2) Have my own celebrity spotting when "Whip It" is filming in Saline
3) Become best friends with Drew Barrymore (#2 and #3 go hand in hand)
4) Go to Mackinac Island
5) Go to another Tigers game
6) Ride my bike to work (Justin doubts my ability to do this)

Lest you think I'm totally shallow, know that I do have some slightly deeper goals (slightly). But I won't bore you with those. So if any of you want to go to a Tigers game or Mackinac Island, or maybe you know the perfect rebel for a summer fling - let me know! One month to go!

Movie mania!

Is Michigan the new Hollywood? There's been so much movie buzz lately, it's starting to feel that way. As you all know (those of you who regularly read my blog), Drew Barrymore is filming a movie in Saline, Ann Arbor, and Ypsi for the next month or so. There's been all sorts of excitement about movie sets, working as extras, and celebrity sightings.

Well, this morning at work, I found out that another movie is being filmed just three blocks away. They will be filming there for four days, so hopefully I'll have more stories for you as the week goes on. The movie is called "Youth in Revolt" and based on the imdb description, it doesn't sound like anything I'd be interested in seeing! But that doesn't take away from the fact that it's really cool to have a movie filming so close by.

On my afternoon break, I walked over to the set to check it out. Kathy warned me that she had walked over there earlier, (hoping to be discovered) when she was rudely ordered to get off the set. Having been warned, I kept my distance but noticed that lots of people were just walking around the set. So I took my chances and walked over to where all the action was. I took a picture of a fake house on the set with my cell phone, as seen above. Apparently they are going to crash a car into it this week and on the news they said that there are supposed to be a lot of explosions. That oughta make work more interesting! I'm hoping to spot Ray Liotta and/or Michael Cera, both of whom are in this movie.

After hearing on the news tonight that some Hollywood people (I know, I know... if I want to make it in this business, I really need to learn the jargon) want to build a studio in this part of Michigan. Don't believe me? Check this out: (link). I'm excited because even though I will never be an actress, at the very least all this movie action is giving me something to blog about. But don't worry, if I do get discovered and make it big, I won't forget the little people.

If I were a Golden Girl, I would be Rose

Ok Ok, I know...two postings in one day sort of reeks of desperation. Read my blog! Please! I posted something new!! But after my last posting, where I mentioned being like one of the Golden Girls when I get old, I remembered that I once took a quiz to see which one I'll be. I couldn't remember the results, so I found another quiz and the result was no surprise: I would be Rose. We both have big hair and are from small towns, so I thought it sounded about right.

Over the years I've had this conversation with a lot of my friends: which Golden Girl would you be? You have to be careful suggesting to them which one you think they'd be. Especially if you're suggesting Blanche, if you know what I mean. And if you suggest Rose they'll think you're saying they're dumb. If you say Sofia, they'll think you mean old, and if you say Dorothy, they'll think boring and let's be honest, she had a weird voice and was teased a lot about her appearance by the other GGs. I once had this conversation with my friend at work, Justin, and I told him that I was sorry, but he'd have to be Stan since there are no other steady men on the show. I most likely made him take an online quiz too. He's a trooper and very patient so he went along with it.

Anyway, I'm curious what the rest of you (I'm talking to you! The 1-2 people who read my blog) think so I'm going to post a poll on the side. Which Golden Girl would you be? If I can get a team of the original four (remember, I'm Rose, and there can only be one of each), I'll meet you on the veranda of our house in Miami in 30-40 years. See you then!
