Wednesday Thoughts

The "man" is really getting me down this week. I need a vacation. I took a long lunch break today and went to the farmers market and out to lunch at my favorite restaurant. It helped but I think I need a day to sleep. Doesn't that sound so nice? Just a day or two. Or a week. Yeah, a week would be nice. Is that asking too much?

In other thoughts, I had some amazing gazpacho a couple weeks ago and I have been craving it ever since. It was like eating a bowl of summer - all the ingredients were so fresh! I've been trying to find a good recipe for it since then but can't decide on one. Do any of you either:

1) have a good recipe for gazpacho, or
2) trust a certain recipe website that you could recommend?

I'm excited to make some. I've only made it once before and it was so long ago I don't remember how to do it. It should be an adventure.

There is one thing I make every summer that symbolizes summer to me: zucchini bread. I love zucchini bread and I associate it with the hottest days of summer. What is your summer specialty?

And lastly, I've started labeling (tagging) my posts as you'll see on the lower left side. It's going to take me a long time to go through and tag all of them but it's been kind of fun to go back. Dang, I blogged a lot about the swine flu last year, didn't I? The funny thing is, just this past weekend I was with a group of friends and someone said, "what ever happened to the swine flu?" I'm not sure if he was waxing nostalgic or if he was just wondering.

Oh great, I just realized that by talking about it again, I'm going to have to label this post as being about the swine flu. Hopefully this will be the last time.

Happy Wednesday, friends.

Wednesday Thoughts

I have so many thoughts about dating lately, I don't even know where to begin. Are you tired of dating posts? Be ready later this week for some dating Q and A. Or least, attempts at A's. But probably mostly Q's. So start thinking about A's because I need them. (Confused yet?)

But since today is Wednesday, I'll keep it light.

So, you know how much I love James Franco, right? But as far as celebrity crushes are concerned, the Rock is totally next in line. Yes, I know - all of his acting is done with his eyebrows. But come on. I watched part of the Tooth Fairy last night and became smitten once again with the Rock. (No, I didn't just sigh.)

Oh no. I was just looking for an image from the Tooth Fairy to go along with this post and found some posters that say things like, "The tooth hurts" and "You can't handle the tooth." It was almost enough to turn against the movie. Awful, just awful. I'm still going to finish that movie tonight though. And I can pretty much guarantee I'm going to love it.

You know, when I started this post, I had no idea is was going to turn into some kind of stalker post about the Rock. I better turn this baby around before it's too late.

Have you guys seen this video of Salma Hayek's snake freak out? I'd have to highly recommend it. I'm scared of snakes too but I'm not "Salma Hayek scared of snakes."

Ok, here's my last thought. I found this amazing brownie recipe on someone's blog recently. It calls for 1 package of low fat brownie mix, 1 can of black beans (rinsed then pureed with one cup of water) and chocolate chips. Did you catch the black beans in there? Let me tell you, these brownies are divine. Trust me. You would never know they have black beans in them. Do you have a recipe with a secret healthy ingredient in it? Please share!

Happy Wednesday.

Wednesday Thoughts

My weekly jumble of mostly unrelated thoughts.

Top of the morning to you and happy Saint Patrick's Day! Are you wearing green? I am, but only because I was trained at a young age that not wearing green on St. Patrick's Day is grounds for pinching. Is there any other holiday that physically punishes a person for not acknowledging it? I don't even think I'm Irish!

In other news, if you need a laugh today, check out this product on amazon. The best part is the user reviews.

How do you guys feel about arranged marriages? Awhile back, I asked my friend Christi to arrange one for me but I don't think she took me seriously. I'm pretty sure I can learn to love most anyone and I'm tired of dating. It seems like whenever I go on a date I suffer from major déjà EW afterwards, flashing back to all of the things I did that were slightly embarrassing or uncool. Like suggesting the smitten too early in the date, or saying, "I can't believe you asked me out! No one ever asks me out! This is so cool! I hope we can go out again really really soon!"*

Enough about that. So, I got to meet a blog friend in person on Sunday and it was really fun. Since we only know each other through our blogs, I couldn't help but wonder if I seemed different than she expected, and I sort of hope I did. I mean, in real life I don't go around talking about smittens, snuggies, arranged marriages, and dating, like I do on this blog. That's a lie. I talk about all those things incessantly.

And lastly, I made some homemade granola bars last night that my friend Sara recommended and they were amazing. I would highly recommend them to all of you! Here's a link if you're interested. You could probably add some green food coloring and call it a St. Patrick's Day treat if you're in danger of getting pinched today. You'll just have to carry them around all day. But that's the risk you take when you don't wear green. And don't try to pull the whole "my underwear's green" trick because you never know when someone might check.

Happy Wednesday. I hope you don't get pinched.

*I never really said that. I am adding this disclaimer due to the realization that a couple people reading this don't realize how sarcastic I am and seemed concerned for me.

An invitation to a triple dog dare

Yeah, you heard me right. I triple dog dare you guys to try this recipe. It's called the "Bacon Explosion" and it's made by weaving pieces of bacon together to create an outer shell, then filling the shell with sausage and cooked bacon. Click here for a link to the recipe and story.

You were looking for something special to make for your Super Bowl party anyway, right? Plus, it's only 5,000 calories and 500 grams of fat.

I may not know who's playing in the Super Bowl (Justin finally told me yesterday but I forgot) but I know what to make for it! (I'm actually not making this. I like my heart and I want to keep it.)
