Wednesday Thoughts

Have I mentioned it's cold? Don't worry, I'm not going to spend this whole post talking about it, but I had to share this with you. Yesterday I realized that with the temperatures being as low as they are, I should probably take my cans of diet rootbeer out of the back of my car before they explode. So when I got home from work, I opened the hatch to grab the case and found this:

Guess I was too late. Lesson learned: sub-zero temps = pop can death.

When the weather gets like this, I go into hibernation mode. I start wanting to stay inside, snuggle up under a blanket, eat comfort foods, and watch movies. Here are just a few of the movies I've watched in the past few weeks:

Persuasion (sooo good - makes me believe in love again)
Free Willy (which I *gulp* bought for $5 - don't hate!)
Castaway (breaks my heart every time Wilson drifts away. Why!? Why!?)
Ghostbusters II (not as good as Ghostbusters I, but Bill Murray is hilarious)
The Interpreter (didn't get it)
Christmas Vacation (one of my all time favorites!)
Elf ("not now, arctic puffin!")

All that and I have a Bill Murray double feature in the works for later this week. Winter is in full swing.

I have to admit though, that even though I'm enjoying curling up with some good movies, I'm already getting cabin fever and winter hasn't even officially started yet. To combat it, on Monday night I put on nearly every piece of clothing I own and went for a walk. There's something so nice about a winter night walk. And no, I'm not talking about the way the wind cuts through all the layers of clothing, or the weird way you have to step so as not to slip on the ice. Though my face was frozen by the time I got home, it was invigorating. And I felt like I'd beaten winter this round - or at least, held my ground.

Elizabeth: 1 (went outside for an extended period of time)
Winter: 1 (rootbeer cans)

Usually winter kicks my butt, so I can live with a tie.

What are you being drawn to lately? And more importantly, when was the last time you saw Free Willy? I have it if you want to borrow it.

Happy Wednesday.

HA! "I have it if you want to borrow it." Good one! I also just want to hide in bed, watch movies, and do crafts. With Christmas coming, I've been in all-out craft mode and loving every minute of it! Funnily (it's a word, right?) enough, I also had a swollen pop incident today! It was a full bottle, and didn't explode, but is rather distended. Perfect for a Cherry Pepsi slush, though!

We had a conversation at work today about how ridiculously freezing it already is, and how we all want to hibernate. One guy said that in ye olden days, people sort of did hibernate in winter, staying indoors, sewing, and preparing for the next big planting season in the spring. But then came the debate - were those days actually better? No penicillin, no electricity or internet to entertain during hibernation...and yet, hibernation.

Basically, I'm ready for spring.

Just watched Persuasion the other day. Thank you PBS Masterpiece Classics and DVR.

So did you taste the soda crystal or do you need to repeat the experiment?

Here's sending you warm thoughts of polar fleece socks, a crackling fire, a big burly lumberjack, and sugar cookies fresh from the oven.

I can't imagine living somewhere so cold you have to put your cokes in the fridge to keep them WARM!!

The Winter always gets to me! I don't like the gloomy-ness of it! So I just try to wear really bright colored clothes and listen to a lot of Caribbean music to make me feel like I am by the the sea, enjoying the hot summer sun! :D sigh*

I really like busy nordic sweaters. Ryan hates them. I am also dying to watch one of my Christmas favorites, "The Family Man". I love it, and now that I have my own family, really identify with both sides of Nicholas Cage's self. yes, wearing expensive clothes sometimes does make me feel like a better person. It shouldn't, I know, but it does...I love my kids to death, and couldn't imagine them not here too.
I am already sick of running on the treadmill (as opposed to outside), and am seriously considering puchasing my own snow plow so that I can plow my own running routes. Ryan DOES NOT think that is funny at all, nor does he realize how serious I am.

I find that turning on a lot more lights than normal helps, and the movies "Love Actually" and "The Holiday" are good for this time of year! :)

I put up a ton of christmas lights in the living room, that made me feel a bit jolly-er. I also went outside for 5 minutes with just a sweatshirt on just to say to winter "you haven't won yet!" It was invigorating and empowering. Take that winter!! (That statement would be more exciting if I knew how to do caps on my phone keypad). Just think, next week you get to see my smiling face! Isn't that enough to get you through the next 10 days! Whoohooo!!

Don't forget Scrooged for a Bill Murray Holiday movie. :)

This is my favorite version of Persuasion- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114117/

We're actually going to have a winter this year and it is totally putting me in the Christmas Spirit!!! It snowed a little today! Yay for cooking comfort food in the oven and Hot chocolate! Christmas just isn't the same at 80 degrees.

I like the three words you used in that order "pop can death".
It's kind of like
pop
which is either music or soda
can
which is a positive affirmation or a can
death
which slaps the affirmation down and renegs on pop.

It just sounds like a new genre of music. That I think i would like to play.
