Snow Day

Yesterday it snowed all day. After church I walked out to the parking lot and found myself unable to get into my car. The wet snow and freezing winds had sealed all the doors shut. Luckily I was able to open one of the back doors and get my scraper out. There's nothing like scraping ice and snow off your car with the wind whipping all around you in high heels, lemme tell ya. But eventually I was able to get in my car and start the fun/scary drive home.

Last night I watched the news right up till bed time, hoping to see Ann Arbor public schools canceled, since, as I've mentioned here before, that would mean my place of work was shut for the day as well. But alas, by the time I went to bed, school was still in session. Disheartened, I went to sleep, dreading my drive in the next morning.

When I woke up this morning I could hear the wind whistling outside and the first thing I did was grab my phone to call the school hotline again. There I saw a text waiting for me from my teacher friend, Sarah, saying: "Snow day! Now turn off your alarm and go back to sleep!"

I decided the best thing for me to do would be to take her advice. Two naps and some crazy nap-dreams later (why do naps produce the weirdest dreams!?), I decided it was time to get outside and enjoy the snow. But with the windchill at negative five degrees, I couldn't talk any of my friends into going sledding! So I decided to at least drive to a park and take some pictures. Which I did, until I could no longer feel my fingers, which to be honest, was not that long. I thought I'd share some of them with you.

Now I'm sitting on the couch in a warm sweater, watching Christmas Vacation and contemplating making some Nutella hot chocolate and quiche for dinner. (Cold weather comfort foods, of course.)

What is your favorite thing to do on a snow day? Or, to my friends in warmer climates, what would you do if you had a snow day?

Since we only have 1 car, everyday is a snow day in SC for me and Ruthie...only never with actual snow. PS We got your postcard! Thank you! I really hope we get to see you in 2011! Take a few snow days in Feb when it is the worst in MI and come see us!

I saw a link my friend Brenda posted on Facebook for it: http://realmomkitchen.com/4725/nutella-hot-chocolate/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+realmomkitchen%2FJNcN+%28Real+Mom+Kitchen%29&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher

Those are beautiful pictures!! Seriously! Grand Rapids got mostly rain, frigid winds, and some snow - nowhere near as pretty as home! When I woke up this morning and saw that it was "14 degrees, feels like -2," I wanted to cry a little. Instead, I put on knee-high socks, leggings, a sweater, a scarf, my hat and mittens and coat zipped up to my nose, and walked to work. Sigh. ;) Oh, well. On snow days, I like to avoid going outside as much as possible! Hot chocolate, warm blankets, and a good movie are my favorite things!!

Yay for snow days! We occasionally get them here. I just like to stay indoors and chill.

Glad you got a little break to enjoy yourself!

Well, long story short.. I came home and went to bed and then woke up at 2 am to samantha screaming...I took her to the hospital...double ear infection. My point to this story is..the worst part of all of it was how freaking freezing it was outside. I walked out of the hospital with my coat unbottoned and hat off and went, "oh heck no!" I turned around..made a joke with the lady at the front desk about just staying there all night...fixed myself up and then shuffeled like my butt was on fire to the car. I prefer the snow to stay outside and me inside. Of course the kids wanted to go out and I said, " I'll watch you from the window!" Ha! I love to snuggle up with hot chocolate,a book..maybe some choc.chip cookies...yum.

Glad my early morning text didn't disrupt your beauty sleep! :) My day involved laundry, attempting to run errands (which involved running a LOT of stop signs...the roads are still crazy icy!!), and then settling back in on my couch for a relaxing evening of catching up on reading my magazines. Snow days = the best!

I have to agree that those are beautiful pictures particularly the one in the top left hand corner. Today as part of our 2011 strategic planning we are going to shoot some golf balls. Its 8:00 am and the sun is beaming in my office window. I think we will be in the 70s today... I now it is rough.

I have never experience a snow day. I have barely experience snow. I know I have been deprived of such winter wonders.

An admirer from the distance. ;)

As a southerner now living in Ohio... I've learnt that snow days are magical. More pictures please!
