Playlist

Looking at my iTunes bill from the last month or so I noticed a certain pattern... or rather, lack thereof. Except maybe that I'm missing the gene that tells me to stop before buying embarrassing (or in my opinion, "awesome") music!

Here are 15 songs I bought in the last month:

1. Sydney (I'll Come Running) Brett Dennen (My current favorite song. I'm over-listening to it as we speak and am on schedule to be tired of it by next week.)
2. If It Isn't Love - New Edition (To get the full experience of this song, do yourself a favor and watch the video. Two words: stirrup pants.)
3. Please Don't Go Girl - New Kids on the Block (The concert is next week! EEeeeek!)
4. Bad Medicine - Bon Jovi ("Shake it up just like bad medicine"!? What does that mean? This song might be too deep for me.)
5. You Give Love a Bad Name - Bon Jovi (Shot through the heart! And you're to blame!)
6. Why Can't This Be Love - Van Halen (It's a gentle kind of rock.)
7. Love is the Right Place - Bryan White (Feel-goodery.)
8. Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crue (Do you think I was proud to include this on the list!?! Because I wasn't!)
9. Dr. Feelgood - Motley Crue (Kids, don't do drugs! No matter what this song says.)
10. Borderline - Madonna (This song washes wave after wave of nostalgia over me.)
11. Danny's Song - Loggins and Messina (Um, this song is beautiful. Everyone knows this.)
12. I Am A Rock - Simon and Garfunkel (No one understands me. I'm all alone.)
13. Hillbilly Bone - Blake Shelton (Little known fact: I can sing lower than either of the men singing this song.*)
14. Gunpowder and Lead - Miranda Lambert (Too bad this song came out too late to be in my favorite J-Lo movie, "Enough.")
15. Try a Little Tenderness - Otis Redding (It's just plain good.)

Three questions:

1. Which is your favorite song on this list?
2. Which song is most embarrassing? (I honestly don't think they all are, for the record.)
3. What are you listening to these days?

Please know, this is just music from the last month but does not represent my entire taste in music. The rest of my ipod would probably give a clearer picture, but who wants to read a list of hundreds of songs? Not you, I'm sure.

I go through phases where I like rock best, then top 40, then hipster, then oldies.... This list just represents the last 30 days or so.

*For sure a lie.

I used to play a game with friends where we would have to divulge the contents of our cd players at home, work, and car. You could ask at any time, and had to answer honestly. I've never had to answer with either Madonna or Motley Crue.

Tuesday I gave a couple of the neighbor boys a ride to the store and they wanted to listen to a rap station. I made them listen to Foghat.

1) Fave: Miranda's "Gunpowder and Lead"...I love how it blows the whole sugar-and-spice-and-everything-nice theory right outta the water. :)

2) Most embarrassing: Definitely either Motley Crue song...shame on you!

3) My current top 3 played songs from the past week are Donna Lewis' "I Love You Always Forever", Matt Nathanson's "Sad Songs", and Pixie Lott's "Band Aid"; my top 3 bands I've been listening to are The Eels, The Band Perry, and Los Lonely Boys!

Haha! I've never had to answer that question with Foghat. ;)

I love that you are buying Mötley Crüe and Van Halen songs, because that means that you are redneck.

NKOTB is pretty embarassing, I'm not gonna lie.

I find myself listening to a lot of instrumental music and recently discovered Explosions in the Sky (Your Hand in Mine is an excellent song). Also last week I discovered my new year's resolution about 6 months late. That resolution is to listen to more Elton John.

I love every song on your list!! I enjoy a variety of genres, too - it makes music listening so much more fun!! I downloaded a song by The Archies recently, as well as Tony Orlando & Dawn and NKOTB...awesome!!! Thanks for the Brett Dennen song - it's a great pick-me-up!!

Seriously, Why Can't This be Love is one of my favorite songs. And I'm not ashamed to say it.

Haha, it's true Jesse, I am pretty redneck at times. I'm gonna make sure my next ten posts are super classy so everyone forgets about this one.

My iTunes purchases are always kind of random like that, too. Love some of those songs - Why Can't This Be Love always gives me a jolt when it first starts and puts me in a good mood. Love Bon Jovi, Blake Shelton, and Miranda Lambert, too.

And New Kids -- going to their concert on Wednesay and am SO excited.

I love Explosions in the Sky. I saw them once in a small bar somewhere in Michigan (yes, I realize that was kind of a hipster thing to say).

Nothing about Mötley Crüe is embarrassing. You should be proud to have them on your playlist. Right now I've been listening to a lot of ABBA.
