Visiting Grandma

I'm overdue to blog about my grandma. You might remember my grandma from some of the dating advice she's given me, such as: wear your hair curly, bake him brownies, and unbutton that top button!

I've been spending more time with her than usual lately because winter gets her down a bit. Plus, she's 91 now and often tells me that "it's awful hard to have to live so long." So I am trying to take advantage of the time I have with her.

Since I've been spending more time with her, we've pretty much exhausted her old favorite subject (why I'm not married yet), and have become better friends. She's been telling me some great stories from her life, and I've been enjoying my visits with her quite a bit.

Yesterday I went over to see her and she had a plate of various cookies out and told me that she'd already poured two glasses of ginger ale for us and they were in the refrigerator, if I could grab them. We sat down together and I gave her a photo album I recently made for her for her birthday. She said something funny that I wanted to share with you all. After admiring the picture on the cover, which is of her with two of her great granddaughters, she said,

"I actually like that photo. I don't usually like pictures of myself. They resemble me too much."

Pretty much sums up the way I feel about pictures of myself too! I've just never put it as well as that. Oh, Grandma.

Grandma really is the best! And I think I'm definitely losing out in the favorite granddaughter category. Oh, well. I'm glad you get to spend so much time with her! And that's so sweet about her already having poured the ginger ale for you both!

What! You don't like pictures of you??? You are and have always been one of the loveliest girls/young women I know! How can you think you don't look good in photos? When I saw you for the first time just before Kathryn was born, we'd just returned form Japan; you took my breath away! Your blue eyes and curly hair were my ideal! You did not loose any of your beauty growing up either, maybe a gawky teen stage like everyone else, but girl, you are BEAUTIFUL!!!! Believe it!!!

There is an article in the 2011 Feb Ensign I think you should read if you haven't already. If you have, read it again! It's on page 33 and is titled Did I Still Love Him? Lots of concerns are talked about that you have brought up in your blog that I think you will identify with.

So lift your head, snap those photos and celebrate your beauty!! (((HUGS)))

Gotta love her! She was always quite the hostess with the mostest. Such a sense of humor, too! You're an ideal g'daughter...your sister, too! Hope you're recording all her memories of her life, for posterity. Enjoy every moment with her.

I too love your grandma even though I have never met her. I wonder if she knows how many fans she has.
