Wednesday Thoughts

I got to see my adorable little niece yesterday. She gives the world's best hugs, seriously. It pretty much made my day to see her and be the recipient of several of those monkey hugs. She's 4 years old, and she told me yesterday that her favorite singer is Alvin and the Chipmunks. When I was a kid I loved Alvin and the Chipmunks too. Those were the days of Saturday morning cartoons. I could be wrong, but I don't think Saturday morning cartoons are a thing anymore - parents, help me out here.

My favorite Saturday morning shows were Alvin & the Chipmunks (as previously stated), The Smurfs, the animated Punky Brewster, and around 11:00am Saved the Bell and the Casey Kasem top 10 countdown came on. That was where I first found out that Rick Astley was white. A fact that blew. My. Young. Mind. I'll never forget that day.

My mom told me that when she was a kid, she loved Alvin and the Chipmunks too. You guys, those chipmunks have really stood the test of time.

This week is a baking week for me! I made some cookie plates on Monday for some friends, and will be making many more as the week goes on. If you are in special need of a sugar fix, let me know.

Last night I helped my grandma get her Christmas cards ready to mail. She's almost 93 now and doesn't really like writing because her sight isn't what it used to be, but she wrote short notes in some of the cards. This one made me smile. She signed it "F" - her first initial.

My grandma makes me smile. I'm so lucky to be able to spend so much time with her. She's a spunky, fun, kind, intelligent woman. I hope I still have my wits about me like she does when I'm that age!

Well, I can't end Wednesday Thoughts on a sappy note, so I'll share one more thought: I don't know what the Elf on the Shelf is. And I'd kinda like to keep it that way. When did this whole thing start anyway!? Is the Elf supposed to be good or evil? How many of you do the Elf on the Shelf for your kids?

Happy Wednesday!

HA!! I'm glad I'm not alone with Elf on the Shelf! Sounds weird... ;) And you're right about the monkey hug queen - so sweet!!! Love that little snuggler! Even if she DOES school me at Memory.

Sammy does give the best 4 year old hugs! My Saturday morning cartoons were Mighty Mouse and Tom and Jerry. I love your cookies! Keep them coming! Elf on a Shelf???

I just found out about Elf on the Shelf this year from my boss. He has three kids... I had to google it after he casually mentioned it. I don't have kids so I was very confused. I did like learning about how they struggled to get the book published.

The posts about your grandma are my favorite. You should compile all grandma stories and publish a book. I would buy it. The way you talk about her and the stuff she says cracks me up.

The elf is basically a spy for Santa (kids, Santa's watching you at all times so you better be good!). So in that sense, he's either a good guy or sinister, depending on your point of view. But he does wacky things at night after he comes back from his behavior report out at the North Pole, so I think that's his appeal. We actually have a vintage one Matt grew up with, but I think this whole activity thing is a new phenomenon.

I've thought about doing Elf on a shelf in years past, but I just feel like a Liar. Paige is starting to question things and I don't feel like making more things up.

Sam does give great hugs. She loves hugging too. She's lucky to have you guys who love to hug back.

Grandma is the best. When we were visiting her she told us that Amelia Earhart did an assembly at her school before she died! Crazy awesome. She also told us about how you get the shell lamp. She's so kind and wonderful.

I have been baking allllllll day. As you know, I am hosting a cookie exchange in the morning and we are also having a luncheon so I have been making soup and more soup and muchies for that as well as 3 different kinds of cookies. I couldn't decide on just one. Pintrest is so full of yummyness.

See you on the morrow!
