Wednesday Thoughts

With the weather getting cold and the leaves changing colors, I'm finding myself in the mood to watch Ghostbusters. Remember that scene with the ghost librarian? Terrifying. (The rest of the movie, not so much.) It's sad how as you get older, movies that scared you as a kid are no longer scary. Another movie in that "used to be scary"category: Watcher in the Woods. Remember that one? NAREK!! (That's a reference to one of the "scariest" parts of the movie, in case you haven't seen it.)

This has been quite a week. I got my oil changed and found out five things need to be replaced in my car. I got a jury duty summons in the mail. My phone broke. My earring broke, etc.. etc...

But lots of good things have happened too, so I'm trying to focus on those. Don't worry, I'm not too gloomy - I'm sure things will pick up as the week goes on.

Moving back to what I was saying at the beginning of this post, I am definitely in the fall/Halloween spirit. I feel like watching a movie that's scary, but not too scary. Any suggestions? I caught something called "Mostly Ghostly" on the Disney channel and watched about five minutes before getting spooked and changing the channel. So keep that in mind when making recommendations.

How are you getting into the fall/Halloween spirit? Happy Wednesday.

Man, I love Watcher in the Woods. Especially the alternate endings on the dvd where they show the being from the alternate dimension come and lasers start shooting and you don't know what's going on. The special effects are great! (I don't remember watching the movie as a kid, but I have definitely seen it within the last few years...).

"Mostly Ghostly?!" Oh, E. I'll bring home "Gaslight" this weekend, that should spook you. I'm ashamed to say that I haven't been getting into the Halloween spirit that much! I did get out my fall/Halloween decorations, and dressed James Dean up as Marilyn Monroe, and I have drunk a considerable amount of cider, but that's about it! Maybe I'll start listening to one of those "spooky sounds" CDs while I paint. In an old warehouse...by myself...OK, NOW I'm spooked.

P.S. I've still never seen "Watcher in the Woods." I always got sent to the front room with Heather and our Fisher Price record player when you watched it when I was a kid. And I remember you guys always screaming at one specific scene. What the heck were you screaming about, anyway? And why am I as old as I am now and still haven't seen it? I'm TOTALLY going to see if they have that at the library here. AND I'll watch it while I paint in the old warehouse all by myself. Now THAT will be spooky! OK, maybe I'll watch it in the middle of the day in my apartment with all the lights on, but I'm sure I'll still get the feel of it.

P.P.S. I voted for all of the options in your side poll. Sorry to mess with the results like that, but I love them all! And would marry them, too, if they were still single.

I love Watcher Woods and it's still scary to me.
Dolores Claiborne is scary.
IT by Stephen King is a good one, but the ending comes unglued and becomes stupid.
Patriotville is funny and they dress up in it a lot. You'll love Patriotville.

Matt says our halloween movie this year will be Drag me to Hell.
The first Halloween movie we watched together was The Changeling.
I tend to like the psychological thrillers over the gory ones. Ok I don't like gory scary movies. And I hate scary movies where the bad guy has NO weaknesses and NEVER dies!

There's always It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. :)

I remember "Watcher in the Woods" in Mr. Holzhauer's 5th grade class...yikes, that scared me so much! I think I've still refused to see it! And I can't watch anything scary, not even previews on TV. I'd agree with The Great Pumpkin. :) Or, truly, I watched "The Haunting" and it wasn't too bad. :)

Katherine, the scene where everyone screams is when they are at an amusement park ride and a witch face comes popping up out of nowhere.

I am also a big fan of the alternate ending, though I would argue that you can watch the entire movie thinking you don't know what is going on.

Should I admit that the movie still scares me?

... hardly ever happens...
