Wednesday Thoughts

I am so excited about this weekend. I love the Fourth of July! Partly for patriotic reasons and partly because of fireworks, bbqs, days off of work, and the three day weekend we have coming up. And plus, I mean, I love America and stuff.

I have plans to see two firework shows this weekend - one over Lake Michigan, one over another lake. I can't wait. But to be honest, I sort of have mixed emotions about seeing fireworks. The nice part is you get to lay on a blanket outside at night with friends, watching the sky light up in beautiful patterns. The downside is the traffic, shrapnel falling from the sky, and mosquitoes.

Just this past weekend I went to a fireworks show and the mosquitoes almost took me down. I combated them by putting on some socks I had in my car and this was the result:

So not hot. Luckily it was so dark no one could see my (un)sexy footwear. I'll be better prepared this weekend.

Ok, here's a little 4th of July question for you. In the spirit of the summer's biggest weekend for bbq's, which do you like better: mustard or ketchup? I asked this question of my family when we were together for Father's Day and all the men preferred ketchup while all the women preferred mustard. Heather wasn't there to break the tie so it left me thinking that condiment preference might be gender related. Weigh in!

Happy Wednesday!

Not a huge fan of either one, but I prefer ketchup over mustard. Actually, I prefer ranch dressing, but that would be weird on a hot dog. Great with french fries though!

Ooh, I'm with Wolfgang there on the ranch/French fry combo! I know I already weighed in on Father's Day, but I'm a mustard girl. Honey mustard if it's going on a sandwich. Yum!
I'm a little scared if that sock/sandal combo!!! Yikes! I really hope not to see that this weekend...

I'm not a huge fan of mustard and prefer ketchup in most instances. Do what you have to do to combat mosquitoes, but...you don't want to be single forever, do you? Next time, before resorting to socks with sandals, consider: a few itchy bumps for a week or a lifetime of loneliness, it's your call.=)

Haha, I wasn't with any single guys that night Natalie, so not to worry. Although... I did just post this picture on my blog so maybe I should be worried.

Hmm...over 30 and single... it's starting to make sense to me now. ;)

Mustard for me, please!

I think you made up for the socks/sandals combination with your color choice of pink heels and toes. Very feminine. Next time wear the fancy ones with the puffy little ball on the back of the ankle. You know you're looking for an excuse to wear them again.

There's this stuff called "Off" and its cousins. Better than the sock/sandal look. And who could not prefer mustard to ketchup on a corn dog?

ketchup for sure. also, if you are looking to avoid mosquitoes eat a clove of garlic. I swear it works! Makes your blood unappetizing, or something. Lasts for days.

It could be me, but wearing socks with sandals in the dark, when you have no bug spray, seems to be a better option than contracting west nile virus. Socks or disease, it's your call.

socks and sandals? That is H-O-T

Ketchup for me

An admirer from the distance. ;)

Oh man I CANNOT get enough of it. I put it on EVERYTHING.

Yeah, I'm going to have to go with ketchup. Mustard just doesn't quite do it for me, and, in my opinion, tends to get overdone anyway.

Ketchup/Catsup, however you want to spell it, it's just plain better than mustard. In fact, I didn't even put mustard on my dogs until I was 17. Yeah, that's how much I like ketchup/catsup.

Answering if I like ketchup/mustard more is like asking if I like hot dogs or hamburgers more. So tough! I've always been a ketchup kid, though. It's good on everything.
I took note of your "shrapnel falling from the sky" negative point of fireworks... is there a tragic story behind this comment?

I never really liked ketchup growing up and it's taken me a long time to grow into it. It's all right on burgers or hot dogs, but it can completely ruin a good french fry for me (I know that's weird). But I don't really like mustard that much either. Unless it's Dijon or spicy mustard. I'll cast my vote for mustard as long as I'm allowed to be a mustard snob and go with the good kind.

Here I am to break the tie...KETCHUP!!!!!! whoohoo. I love it. I do not, however, love mustard. I very much dislike it, sorry. (Mom, I am eating a corndog right now with ketchup. Are you sure i'm not adopted? :)

I love the 4th too. The amber waves of grain, the purple mountains majesty....ahh. I heart America..

I am with you on the socks over west nile, Vernice. I'd rather the socks than itching forever too. You do what you gotta do.

We are going to the Manchester one's this weekend.

I actually do prefer ketchup as well, except with corndogs - then I really like a little ketchup and mustard. It doesn't seem quite as satisfying without the mustard.

Socks with those sandals, whoa! Next time just make sure you wear your Dr martens. That used to be all the rage to wear socks with those sandals.

It depends, I'm usually ketchup, but if it's a bratwurst, I'm spicy mustard all the way. But you may have a small truth, Andy always votes Ketchup or better yet, BBQ sauce.

mosquitoes are evil. i was wearing jeans and flip flops at a campfire, with a citronilla (sp) candle burning nearby - and i didn't have long enough sleeves apparently. I got at least 6 bites on my arm and 3 on my one baby toe alone with a few others nearby those on the same foot. one even bit me through my jeans. i'm like WTHeck!
ps - ketchup. all the way. evenso, sparingly. :)

You are so brave to show a picture of you wearing socks with sandals.
I love mustard, especially honey mustard. Ketchup doesn't come in any other flavors like mustard does.
