Open Brainstorm

I want to rename my blog but I can't come up with anything good (I hope that sounded as whiny as intended). I am just not clever and I am very jealous of people who are. One Saturday morning recently I was running errands and I heard a man talking on the radio about a book he had written which was subtitled Innuendo and Out the Other. I was immediately irritated. Why? Because the name of the book was so clever and I knew I could have never come up with something like that.

Which brings me back to my problem. I want to rename my blog but can't come up with anything. "Elizabeth Downie" just isn't cutting it for me anymore. It was a desperate move by a beginning blogger and just never got fixed.

I keep trying to think of alliterative names (why, I don't know) but I think I actually kind of hate alliterative names. I mean, I'm almost positive I hate them, at least in regard to my own blog. Something like, "Michigan musings" makes me feel sick. It's fine for other people, but it's just not me. (I'm really nervous right now that one of you has a blog named Michigan Musings that I subconsciously remembered but now can't remember if it's real or not. It's a good name - just not for me.)

So then there are the whimsical names like, "thoughts on life" and "view from here" which make me feel uncomfortable because my blog just isn't that serious for the most part. I'd feel pressure to be insightful with a name like that.

Then I tried to think of things I like, such as:

Snuggies - but I'm growing tired of Snuggies.
Riding my bike - Unfortunately I can only ride my bike half the year so I can't make it part of my blog name.
T.V. I am in denial about how much TV I watch though, so I can't really own that, plus I don't blog about TV. Ok, yes I do. Once again, I'm in denial.
Books - Yes, books! Finally a worthy hobby! But my blog isn't about books, sadly.
Being single - wait, this shouldn't be listed under "things I like." But I am single and I do blog about that a lot so...I guess it's something to consider.

I guess the question comes down to, what is my blog about? If I could figure that out, I think I'd be on the path to naming my blog.

So I thought I'd go to you all because you're much more clever than me. Often people who read my blog say to me, "the comments are often more funny than the actual post!" not realizing that this is actually an insult to me. But I agree. You all are quite funny. (Yes, I am buttering you up now.)

How did you come up with the name for your blog? Can you help me name mine?

I like the title of Wolfgang's blog: "Creepy Wierdos".

Wolfgang said...

It's not as good as Vernice's blog: "Tales from a Spider Queen".

My favorite post from Vernice was "Scalp massages done right."

And thanks Wolfgang and Vernice. You've been very helpful. ;)

Gosh, this is so obvious, hasn't your grandmother already suggested it?

Elizabeth Anonymous

You just have to find out what his real name is and marry him.

I like something along the lines of "Single Thoughts", but really, if you want to figure this out, you can go to this website:

http://www.wordle.net/create

And put in your blog address, and it shows you the words/topics/terms you write the most! That might help you brainstorm an idea or two or twenty! :)

PS: I play on that wordle site *all the time!*

My blog name just popped into my head. Actually, the first thing that popped into my head was Tuesdays aren't just for losers anymore," but I thought "losers" was a little harsh so changed it to "robots" (which also just popped into my head). So maybe do some free associations and see what you come up with?

I just put your name in the Jersey Shore nickname generator. "E-Pop" is a perfect name for your blog!

The only other thing I could think of was "Eliza-bits". Bad. SO BAD. I'm very sorry and embarrassed. I can't offer you any help with this one. :(

Hrmm...I haven't read everything on your blog yet, but looking at your profile...

Memoirs of a Michigan Mathematician

Ooh except you don't want alliteration...and I doubt you blog about math too much..

I'll see if anything comes to me in the shower...that's where most epiphanies occur :D

The Single(s) (ward) Ladies team is on it, Elizabeth! Don't you worry!

Ok, this is what we have for you so far:

"Downie Down Under" (but that sounds too sexual)

"Downie but not Outtie" (you're single but it's not gettin' you down)

"Downie Soft" (like the fabric softener)

In that same vein, "Gettin' Fresh like Downie"

Some options to consider! We'll brainstorm a little more tonight if our brains get too restless :)

so I did that wordle thing and this is what I came up with:

"Just want to know something"
or
"anything clever"
or
"funny unrelated musings"

but i don't think it's very accurate because I definitely think you've said Magnum way more than Pierce Brosnan. I think it just takes the most recent posts...

I vote something with mustache. Like "finding a good mustache" or "cloudy with a chance of mustaches" (ok not really)

Oh btw I named mine by using a Thesaurus and looking up words I thought worked for who I am...I like my blog name so I guess it worked. Good luck

Is E mag already taken? You could be like O for Oprah?

Downieville? Now that Farmville is so popular and all!

"Writin' Downie Me Thoughts" :) (Say it with that bit o' Irish in ya!)

"Saline (MI) Downie the River on a Blog" (Ann Arbor doesn't really work here. ;)

What ever it is, it needs to be funny, since you are very funny (and clever!). Humble too! ;)

I saw the I Don't Hate Comments badge, and thought that could be your name. Or looking at your profile, "Fascinating Pastime" could work...I wonder if you can convey sarcasm through a blog title? If so, that's what you should go with. Oh, and some double meaning about "Past Time" - like this is your past time and it's past time for the perfect man to come along... Just brainstorming!

Jules AF said...

Do you say anything a lot? Because I say "How could you not" ALL THE TIME.

Priscilla said...

I think you should just go with: "This post has been removed by the author." ;)

Vaughn said...

Elizabeth, your blog has become too popular for me, sorry.

Do something sarcastic, because i think of you and i think she CANT be serious, this girl is perfectly Humble about being perfect

-E LIES A BETH
-The Awkward, Hilarious Moments in life
-Nothing left unsaid and then a subtitle that says, "everything you think about but dont want to say just got said"
-It's Only Awkward for a moment
-You KNOW you were thinking it
-Mentioning the Unspeakable
-WOrds from a prophet, keep the commandments
-Its OK, i dont like you either, this is my personal favorite, if i blogged more, i would have this for mine, but alas, you can have it, ill just take it for facebook.....
