FHE Book Giveway!!!

Some of you may remember this book from last year when I wrote a review of it. Or maybe you're one of the many lucky people who already owns a copy of it! If you do not yet own your own copy of this outstanding resource, now is your chance!

The name of the book is "There's no place like home...evening! An FHE planning guide for young single adults." It is full of creative and fun ideas for hosting Family Home Evening activities for singles (though the ideas could be easily used as theme parties)!

In case you didn't read my review, or haven't heard of this book, here is the link. Read it real quick, then come right back, k?

You might be thinking "but I'm not an FHE planner, so I probably don't need a copy." Well, stop thinking that immediately and read these reasons why you will want a copy of this book:

1. There is any possibilty of your becoming FHE or activities planner in the future (you never know!).
2. You are in any other auxiliary and may have to plan an activity at some point.
3. You like hosting parties and are always looking for themes, tips, and invitation ideas.
4. You like owning awesome books.

Some of my favorite ideas in the book include:  Backwards Dinner (p. 53 - or should I say Rennid Sdrawkcab?), Haunted Home Evening (p. 79 - learn part of the Thriller Dance!), and Pioneer Day Games (p. 78 - will someone please pull me some taffy??). And bonus, the book comes with a CD rom that has a ton of templates on it! And plenty of tips for planning and motivating people to attend your activities.

My sister is currently flipping through my copy of the book gasping at every other page as she finds more and more fantastic ideas she could use in her calling as Young Women's President.

Ok, now that I've convinced you that you must own this book, here's what's you need to do:

To enter, first, become a follower of this blog (it's so easy!) and then answer this question: what is your most favorite FHE of all time?

Bonus entry: Repost this on Facebook or Twitter and get an extra entry! (Leave a second comment to let me know you did this!)

The winner will be picked at random on FRIDAY! Good luck!

I have a hard time remembering all of the Family Home Evenings that I've been to as a YSA and a Not-So-YSA. One that sticks out as a favorite was around the 4th of July last year.

We made bald eagle heads out of marshmallows, white chocolate and cashews. Mine looked like he was crying (I'm not very good with toothpicks, as it turns out.) Here's a picture: Sad Eagle

We also had a competion where we had to fill in a map with the names of the states and their capitals. I lost that one badly.

We did a Chinese food night, got like 10 entrees and we just ate.

I can't remember if it was an FHE or not, but I remember playing Sardines in the dark in the institute. That was pretty awesome ;)

Okay this is a favorite FHE from my family, but we used to go all together and bowl. AND we got the bumpers (because I was small). I just remember laughing a lot. And then after bowling we would always hit up Dairy Queen for ice cream :).

I have a lot of favorites, but I've always liked FHEs where we play games, whether board or other - scavenger hunts and the like! I really want to learn how to pull taffy, too...
P.S. I posted this on Twitter and FB! :)

I'm a follower. A favorite FHE was glow in the dark volleyball.

So I have had some great and not so great activities. Some of my favorites are as follows. The first two involve hills. My ward did ice blocking (take big ice blocks and sitting on a towel on the block of ice then sliding down a big hill in the summer - so the ice melts on the grass and takes you down the hill) and a large water/slip and slide (take a huge thing of plastic and put it going down a hill with water going down at the top). Both activities are more fun if you go down the hill in trains and crashing is usually involved. The next one was a "service scavenger hunt" where we did a race to see if we could get certain clues. There were opportunities for service there (such as someone dropping books or with full arms). The team that completed the service won the "race".

I am so excited to hopefully win this book. I am a very lucky person so it is pretty likely that I will win. ;)

My favorite FHE was a combined activity that the Santa Monica 1st ward put on for surrounding YSA wards. We played Minute to Win It games in three rounds, winners advancing each round until the final battle. It was such a hit, the producers of the show contacted us and recruited some of our YSAs to compete on TV!

My favorite FHE was with my family - but it is kind of a weird one. We watched a disturbing video of the rapture that was put out by another denomination and all us kids were freaked out about it. Then our parents explained how it will actually happen (according to LDS faith) and it made us all feel better. Although that video does still give me nightmares...

I don't remember what the lesson was, but I think my favorite FHE was when I was like 12 yrs old or so, and we went out in the backyard where my Dad taught us how to play freeze tag. We had SO MUCH FUN!

I think my favorite FHE was a series of 5 where we watched and discussed short Gospel Lessons from EFY "Be Thou an Example." All the kids were interested and engaged and we discussed their daily life with a new perspective! We have had fun FHE, but these had such and impact on all of us!

Thanks for the opportunity!

I am a follower, and I missed out on a lot of FHEs since I didn't join the church until recently. Hopefully I can still win since I am married. I feel like I need help with coming up with stuff for my kids. I liked hanging out with everyone from the Institute Ward. It was always fun.

The best FHE that I have had was a road rally

We had a nerd FHE. We dressed like nerds and took "family pictures". After we had Sudoku contests to see who could finish them the fastest, then we all worked on homework. Ridiculous. But fun.

(we did it in college)

Oh I want this book! I am not yet a member of the church, but am an investigator and will be joining soon! I want this because I didn't grow up with FHE's so I would love this book for ideas!

Oh my heavens, I think I need this book. I've been on the FHE Council in my ward for over two years now! And I love it... :)

My favorite FHE of all time? That's hard... We made "third story sundaes" once. We got mixing bowls and placed them on the ground, then tried to land all the sundae ingredients in the bowls from the third floor balcony. So sticky and so fun! Another good one was shooting the potato gun in the canyon. :)
