Tuesday Thoughts

I know I normally write "Wednesday Thoughts" but I'm going on vacation tomorrow so I won't be blogging. Plus, I'm feeling kind of Wednesdayish today so I thought I'd post some thoughts.

I saw this picture from Starwars yesterday when I was out on a walk (it was spray painted on the side of a wall) and it made me laugh. Another piece of street art I saw that made me laugh but also grimace is this one:

Aren't you glad the stuff with Kwame is moving into the past!? I know I am. I'm sure he is too.

I was thinking about seeing a movie sometime this week (maybe even later today). Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm debating between Marley and Me, The Curious Case of B.B., and Valkyrie, but I'd be open to other options.

My sister Katherine and I decided to do something different for New Year's this year so we are going to take part in a murder mystery at a Bed and Breakfast tomorrow night! The B & B is in northern Michigan on Lake Michigan, and we're really looking forward to it. My question is, how into the murder mystery should we get? I'm not sure which role I want - I'm not even sure what the options are yet - but I'm secretly hoping to be either Ms. Scarlett, Ms. Marple, or the murder victim. I figure if I'm the murder victim, I can just do a really big dying scene, then hang back and eat hors devours the rest of the night while I plot my revenge on whoever did it. I mean, whodunit.

On Thursday I'm starting a new blog (in addition to this one - does the vanity ever stop!?) called "picture a day." No pressure to check it out, but it might come in handy when you're trying to procrastinate doing something important and need a distraction. I'm here to help.

Debate fun

I know that some of you are getting sick of politics, and I don't blame you. It is exhausting sometimes and it's hard to know who to trust. But I can't help myself, I am really enjoying this election season! It's just so exciting! The drama, the lies, the mudslinging, the speeches, the debating, the fact checking, the msnbc reports. It's addictive. And debate nights are my favorite. Since the election season is almost over, I figured I'd better enjoy the few weeks we have left!

Even though it's a different kind of debate tonight, it's still a debate and to celebrate, I thought it would be fun to decorate sugar cookies with themes from the election (one of them is pictured above). I gave one to my friend Justin today at work to eat during the debate tonight, but the cookie didn't make it through the work day (not that I blame him, I had one for breakfast). He said that it did make him feel more patriotic though. Hopefully he'll think of that cookie during the debate tonight.

If the cookie isn't enough to make the debate more exciting, I have another idea: I'm going to count how many times the words "fundamental," "maverick," and "economy" are said tonight. All right, time to concentrate. Enjoy the debate, friends! (Or "my friends" as McCain said about 100 times tonight.)

Mickey Mouse for President, 2008

Having a hard time deciding who to vote for this election? One group believes that the best thing fed up voters can do is to write in Mickey Mouse's name on the ballet. I heard recently that Mickey Mouse gets the most write in votes in every presidential election. Really? Mickey Mouse? He's ok I guess, but you know that if he's elected, it actually means that the Disney corporation is running the country and that scares me more that that other guy winning. (Most of you know which candidate I'm supporting, but I don't want to offend anyone so I'll keep it vague.)

So who should you write in? Well, that's your decision, but don't waste your vote on Mickey Mouse. If you're going to waste it, at least vote for a cartoon character who has the leadership qualities this country needs. Let's discuss a few of our options:

Lisa Simpson: A good choice, but too young, and I'm thinking too liberal to appeal to moderates.

Pros: Smart, passionate, hard working.

Cons: Know-it-all, young, wears too many strapless dresses which some won't approve of. Plus, if she won, I think that would mean Fox was running the country.

Wile E. Coyote: Let's be honest, he's a horrible choice. If we're looking for someone to catch Bid Laden, W. Coyote is not the guy. How many times have we seen him try to catch that roadrunner? And every time, he ends up running off the edge of a cliff or blowing himself up. Next!

Pros: Never gives up

Cons: Probably should give up. Why is he always trying to get that roadrunner anyway? Does anyone even remember anymore!?

Donald Duck: Seems like a nice enough guy, but who can understand him? Also, I just read that he was in some controversial propaganda films in WWII. You know that will come up in the campaign! Controversy!

Pros: Cute, patriotic

Cons: Speaks with a very heavy duck accent, making it hard to understand him. Has a bad temper! Doesn't wear pants. Yikes.

Papa Smurf: Papa Smurf seems like a great candidate although some might say his size is a problem.

Pros: Obvious leadership qualities, loves America (as evidenced in the picture at the left), after fighting Gargamel for so many years, is probably a good war strategist.

Cons: Only three apples tall. Also, doesn't wear a shirt. And one more thing, can you imagine the speeches he'd give? "Fellow Smurfians, I am very smurfed to be here today! This country was smurfed on hard work and smurfatism..." The use of the word smurf to replace certain verbs and nouns is gonna get old (and confusing) fast.

I hope I didn't offend anyone with my analysis of these candidates. (I mean, cartoon characters.) Did I leave anyone out? Let me know if there are any other candidates to consider or if I left out any important facts about the ones listed. I'll see you at the polls November 4th!

This is pretty good

Kathy sent me this link this morning. It's hilarious - it's a remixed song made in response to the drama with Kwame Kilpatrick lately. The image on the left is from the same website.

Check this out: Kwame's apology song (link). Click on the link, then click on listen. I think this song pretty accurately reflects how most people feel about Kwame at this point.

Side note: Kathy thinks this song would be better if Shooby were scatting over the parts where Kwame is talking. I have to say that I agree.
