Wednesday Thoughts

If you had to give up either french fries or pizza for the rest of your life, which would you choose? Don't worry, your decision isn't binding but pretend it is for the sake of some deep soul searching. What is the one junk food you would never want to give up?

Today is 9/9/9 and I feel like something magical should happen but so far it hasn't. I'm hoping tonight at 9:09 something will happen. Maybe I should go to a magical place to increase the odds. Any suggestions?

In other random thoughts, after my sewing lesson last week with Alecia, I've gotten bitten by the sewing bug. I went out over the weekend and bought a bunch of sewing supplies. As I was leaving Jo-Ann's, my arms heavy with shopping bags, I thought to myself, "I hope this isn't just a phase." I think I'm too old to go through hobby phases, but I'm not sure. How do you keep yourself interested in a new hobby?

Last thought: yesterday was my niece Paige's first day of school - she's in young fives - and my sister told me that this morning when she woke Paige up for school, Paige said, "I have to go again!?" I feel like that almost every day.

Happy Wednesday.

I totally understand about the new hobby thing! But it actually snowballs with sewing, now I'm sewing a lab coat... I'd be more concerned about losing all your other hobbies in life to sewing.

Oh, that's so cute about Paige! I definitely feel that way a lot in my life. Wouldn't it be crazy to do something completely different every day?!

I think the way to stay interested in a hobby is to change it up from time to time. If you get bored making bags, try decorative pillows. Or if you're up for a challenge, get a simple pattern and make a skirt or something.

I reeeeeeally think that you should go to Mystery Hill in Irish Hills tonight at 9:09. That's where the magic will happen!

I just realized I'm commenting in reverse Wednesday Thoughts order. Hmmm...

OK, finally, you know I've given the French fry/pizza debate considerable thought. I still think I'd have to give up pizza. I mean, I love it, but French fries...they're so delicious and come in so many varieties! Waffle, seasoned, curly, crinkled, Wendy's... Ooooh, but pizza is good, too, and also has variety. Man, it's a good thing I don't really have to give up one of these. It'd be impossible!!! (Sorry for the melodrama...I haven't had lunch yet.)

Tonight at 9:09, we'll be just over halfway into the two-hour season premiere of America's Next Top Model. This season--er, I'm sorry, this CYCLE--is populated entirely with unemployable model wannabes who are shorter than 5'7", and one of them apparently has a condition known as "bloody eyeball."

So as far as I'm concerned, we are guaranteed something magical at 9:09 tonight, and the other 119 minutes surrounding it.

The $ I have invested in my 'new' hobby of 3 years keeps me interested!
I've fallen out of love with many hobbies. I don't know how to rekindle a lot of them. Me and my scrapbooking, for example, need to have a honeymoon or something. I haven't scrapbooked in over a decade!

I just got stressed out over the french fry/pizza decision, so I'm instead voting on all non-chocolate candies as the junk food genre I would do without. That means you, Jolly Ranchers!

Today at work, I kept telling my classes that it was an exciting day because it was 9/9/09, and they couldn't have cared less! One of them said, "Tell us when it's 10/10/10, that'll really be cool." Sheesh!

Hobby maintenance...that's a toughie. Maybe using it as a tiny means of income would motivate a person to keep going. Or, attending a class/lesson once every few months. And making things for yourself that make you smile!

PS: Wait until Paige finds out she has to go back like 175 more times, for like 15 more years! :) I totally feel her pain! :)

Hey Elizabeth! Doug was right... you are hilarious and a great writer. Tonight was so fun. 9/9/09...no wonder we were so silly tonight. You are the best.

As for the junk food thing I have to say I could give up pizza. I like it but I REALLY like fries. What I really like is sweets so that would be the hardest. Good thought provoking question. :)

Let me know what you find out about the hobby thing. I have tired various things (like sewing) and have lost interest. Usually it is attributed to not having the money to keep going or to buy all the supplies needed. Trying new and exciting projects seem to keep the spark better. That is my suggestion.

I can't wait to read more of your blog. You are so funny and the layout is beautiful. I might steal it or copy it. :)

p.s. my word verification is exuzzle. Random!

I've tried to tell myself that I won't start a new hobbie until I finish my scrapbook from a vacation we took 7 years ago....the bag of pics and scrapbooking supplies continues to collect dust in the closet. It's just not as fun as everyone made it out to be. I also have an unfinished crochet project sitting on my ottoman in the living room. :)

I'd give up french fries. Yes, they're good. But they draw you into what my sisters and I have called the Fry-cycle. You see french fries on a menu, begin to salivate, order and devour the fries, feel deliciously satisfied. Then, 20 minutes later, you start to regret it. 40 minutes later, you vow to never have them again. Several days later you see them on the menu again and the cycle continues.

I take exception with sweet potato fries. They are always good. And I never regret them.

I would give up the French Fries for sure. I could never give up the pizza. French fries are always an afterthought in a meal anyway. Sure, with a little fry sauce (a Utah thing) they are pretty good. But if you think about it in McDonald case they are half lard and half potato. Yuck!
You can always ask friends for advice and new ways to think about your hobby. Sometimes a new perspective can make all the difference. Two heads are better than one!
I have felt like Paige a lot lately, I sure could use a day off. Do I really have to go again? But alas, I have to pay the bills.

I think you need to have an option to comment on the quotes on the side. They're HILARIOUS!!! Thanks for making me laugh! :)

I'd give up pizza. I like McDonald's fries and curly fries and waffle fries and onion rings (do they count?)
