What I've been up to lately

I've been pretty busy lately, but I don't want to have to rename this blog "Wednesday Thoughts" (since that's basically all I've posting lately), so I thought I better start posting more!

Here are some of the things I've been up to lately:

I saw a frog. I was hopping on my bike last night to ride home from a visit to my grandma's when I saw it. I gasped. It froze. We both saw each other but neither of us knew what to do. It's not often I see frogs so I didn't want to waste the opportunity. What should I do? Pick it up? Ask it some questions? Pet it? Ultimately I landed on saying, "hi froggy," taking a picture of it, then getting on my bike and riding off. I panicked!!

I had an aunt date with one of my nephews. We went bowling, went out to ice cream, and went to Greenfield Village, among other things. We packed a lot into a 24 hour period! My nephew, who is seven, is really amusing. Here's one of our conversations:

Him: "My flag football teacher was the best teacher ever."
Me: "What is his name?"
Him, thinking...."I can't remember but I know it begins with 'Mr.'"

Here's another:

Me: "What's your favorite animal?"
Him: "A king cobra. It can kill a whole elephant."
Me: "What's your other favorite animal?"
Him: "A tiny bug that is soooo small but it can kill an elephant."
Me: "So you only like animals that can kill elephants."
Him: "Yes."

I visited my grandma. I visit her every week of course, though I haven't written about her much lately. She still thinks she's going to die soon (and by "thinks" I mean "hopes") but she's still cheerful overall and really funny. She has no idea why I'm not married yet but thinks it might be because men are idiots. She "hasn't decided yet." (Her words.) Me not being married yet is still her favorite topic of conversation, by far. But it's because she loves me so it doesn't bother me.

Grandma's apartment

I went for a hike at Bird Hills park with Dana and Blue (Dana is a human, Blue is a dog - one of the best dogs on earth, for the record). Bird Hills park is such a great place to hike. Great shade and beautiful trails.

The second picture couldn't be less to scale. The angle makes it look like Blue is a little munchkin when in reality he's truly ginormous.

I grated up some fresh zucchini and made some to-die-for zucchini bread, if I do so say myself. The bread cannot be pictured here because it was et. Pretty quickly.

Isn't summer the best? I mean second best, since fall is the best, but still. Summer is pretty dang good.

I love E.'s comment about loving only animals that can kill elephants. Crazy! Cute pictures. And yes, the zucchini bread was delicious!

You should have picked up the frog and kissed it. Maybe then it would have turned into a handsome prince.
I feel like you need to post more about your grandma, cause I love hearing about her and want to know more about her and her life.

Your life is fun. I want to be in it more and maybe even garner a spot in your blog.

Is et even a word?

I am wheezing laughing at him saying it starts with Mr. Ha! Kid cracks me up. He did have so much fun. On the way home he was wondering if we could guess all the tings you guys did and when I mentioned watching the movie and going to the Farmer's market he was SHOCKED. He said," How did you KNOW?!" I said, "I'm Mom, I know everything." He looked amazed. I don't want him to get older and be able to figure out that I actually talk to you during these sleep overs. Lol.
Grandma's apartment is so cute. I love her to bits.
The frog does look a little stunned.
