Wednesday Thoughts

I think we can all agree that the take-away from the State of the Union address last night was that this guy exists:

Ernest Moniz - Secretary of Energy
I watched part of the SOTU with my mom, and when this guy came on the screen, I said to her, "Is that guy in the whig party?" Which got a surprisingly big laugh from her, considering it wasn't my best work. Twitter came up with some much better stuff:

I wonder if today is weird for him. I wonder if people are telling him that he became a Twitter meme. What must that conversation sound like?

Ernest: "I'm a 'meme' on Twitter? Why?"
Friend: "Because of your hair and eyebrows."
Ernest: "What's a meme.... and what's Twitter?"

In other thoughts, I am getting a bad case of cabin fever because of winter. I'm not going to get into it because it's just the same tedious complaining year after year but here's what's getting me through the day:

Catch Up

Every time I think of blogging, something happens. It's like I can't gain access to my own thoughts. I decided to do some art therapy to see if I could figure out what's going on. This is what I came up with. I'm a really good artist, if you didn't know:

I made myself sleeping in the drawing because it just felt right. Those things on my head are the obstacles getting in the way of accessing my thoughts when I need to.

So I made a word cloud to do some digging in my brain. Here are some of the things I've been up to lately, in case you were wondering. Cake is on there a lot because my family has a lot of birthdays and cause for celebration this month. Also, cake is good.

I'm trying really hard to make the most of winter but I feel like I'm failing. Because I am. But I'm trying. Mittens help. Hot showers help (except the dry skin that comes with them). Netflix definitely helps except that I'm in need of a new series to watch. Music is great though I tend to gravitate to more sad/heavy music in the winter (I've kept my winter ban on Radiohead). I got some Stabilicers for my birthday, which will help, I hope. My friend hinted that they're not "cool" and that I was "old" for needing them and that because he's "younger" than "me," he "doesn't" "slip." Whatever. He doesn't know what's cool. Grumble grumble grumble.

Anyway, enough about me. What are you doing to survive winter?

Wednesday Thoughts

You might be looking at my new blog header thinking, "Um, we all know the second Back to the Future is by far the worst! Why would she feature it?!" But if you are thinking that, you are one of the only people who doesn't know that the movie takes place in the year 2015.

AKA, this year. Isn't that weird? It's 2015. I've already gotten the year wrong a few times so far, but I went the opposite way. I keep thinking it's 2016.

Anyway, I watched the second Back the Future recently to see what we'd have to look forward to this year. Basically this is what I learned:
  • Men will wear two ties at the same time
  • Hoverboards will finally be real
  • Shoes will lace themselves
  • Biff will be ugly
  • Movie posters will be terrifying holograms
  • Dogs will be walked with floating leashes
  • No more doorknobs - that's really going to change the way horror movies go by the way. Without of a jiggling doorknob, how will we know a ghost or intruder is trying to get in?
  • Food will be made and served in a weird way (but will still be eaten on plates from the 80's)
  • Michael J. Fox will be his own teenage daughter...
  • And son:

  • Printers will get much worse:

There were other things too, but those are the ones that stood out in my mind. Here's the other thing about Back to the Future Two - it's not good. It's so stressful and way too Biff-heavy. I love Biff for lots of reasons - he's constantly eating manure, he is really cute, he messes up idioms, and he has great facial expressions. But old Biff? Yuck. (Young rapist Biff is pretty awful too.) And the whole scene where they're back at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance again? Just, no. Too stressful. It ruins the purity of the night for us viewers. I don't need to think that Biff was a double menace that night. I just want to think about Marty jamming so hard at that dance, and his parents falling in love. Not to mention Chuck Berry finally hearing a clip of the new sound he'd been looking for.

It's weird that something so unpleasant could be sandwiched between the two best movies ever made but there you go. At least we learned about the future.

Happy Wednesday!

Puppy Love

Yesterday I got totally sucked into a Hallmark movie called Puppy Love. I am normally not at all drawn into this sort of movie but it had two things going for it:

1. DJ Tanner was in it, and
2. A very, very, very cute dog was in it.

I was really invested at the beginning because there was some drama about whether or not the dog would be returned to its rightful owner. I sat on the couch saying, "oh no. oh no, no no," as the dog's owner and the dog barely missed each other. I was stressed to the max.

Then things started to calm down and I was content with the direction the movie was taking, and the safety of the dog. I won't spoil anything but let's just say things work out ok. I just wanted to put you at ease so you won't be as stressed out as I was if (when!?) you watch it.

By the end of the movie this was me:

And now I have a new New Year's Resolution: watch as many Hallmark movies as it takes to learn to believe in love. My heart totally grew three sizes yesterday. I give Puppy Love two paws up.

(PS, I take a month off of blogging and come back with a review of a Hallmark movie called Puppy Love?? I have no idea what's going on with me.)
