Drafts

I know I haven't been posting a lot, but I have been writing a lot of posts. I just haven't been posting them for whatever reason. Most of the time I just don't finish writing them. Sometimes the posts seem too weird or ornery. Here are some summaries of some of the drafts I have sitting in my draft folder. Hopefully this post doesn't become one of them.

Chatty Kathy -
This is a post about how I've often been told I talk too much, or more gently that I'm a chatterbox. This post contains a list of random thoughts I just HAVE to get out. Thoughts like: Why do ghosts always hide in closets? Do they have any control over how transparent they are? If they do, just be invisible all the time, jerks. And Why do I always feel like I'm betraying Halloween when I say my favorite holiday is Christmas? Does Halloween care? Why do I care? There's also something about how I wonder if I'll ever be stabbed. Not that I want to be. This post kind of makes me look like a lunatic.

Fun with tweens -
This is a post about working with the 12-13 year old girls at church and how I listened in to some prank calls they made at a party we held. Then I talked about things I did at sleepovers and parties when I was that age. And I how I always closed my eyes just in case when we played "Bloody Mary" in the bathroom mirror. I don't know why I didn't post this one. I think I just didn't think it was that interesting.

A Superbowl Story -
This was the brief story about how I threw up during the Superbowl this year. It's an unfinished post for obvious reasons (it was gross and I knew I wasn't going to post it).

Things I heard in the dentist's chair -
This was just quotes from the conversation between my dentist and her hygienist while I was having some work done on my teeth back in January. Snippets like:

"Have you seen commercials for the Lego movie?"
"That movie is truly life imitating art."
"I don't think I'll be seeing it."

For whatever reason, I found this conversation amusing.

An untitled post in which I renamed Downton Abbey because of how depressing the show became -
This post only contains three lines:

Downer Abbey
Downton No-bey
Dow-no Abbey

Nailed it.

Office Offenders -
A list of names for annoying people in the office. I didn't post this because I was afraid people at work would read it and identify themselves. Titles included: The Loud Cruncher, The Nose Honker, and The Hummer.

A REALLY LONG post about how I hated the weather coverage during the Polar Vortex
I didn't post this because it was super ornery.

Scary or not scary -
I wrote this one around Halloween of last year and I don't know why I didn't post it because it's kinda fun. Maybe I just never got back to it. Anyway, it's a breakdown of (mostly) mythical creatures like werewolves and zombies and witches and whether or not I find them scary and why or why not.  I kinda like this one. I might post it.

Family Ties notes (part one)-
This is from when I started watching Family Ties on Netflix. There's only like two thoughts in this post. Why I thought I would be writing more than one part, I have no idea. That show is so good though. I should go back to this one.

Ok, I think that's enough for today. There are plenty more drafts but this post is getting pretty long. Are there any on this list you'd like to see posted?

Wednesday Thoughts

I have been sitting here for a few minutes debating about talking about the weather in my Wednesday Thoughts. It's such a boring topic yet it is huge in our lives, you know? So I'll just say ONE thing. Yesterday everything was thawing and melting and water was running through the streets. People were wearing t-shirts and shorts with no coats. It felt like spring!

Then today we got about eight inches of snow. But I am not complaining because I got a snow day out of it which was just so wonderful. I won't rub it in case you did not get the day off but let's just say, it involved sleep. Sleep and cookies. It was wonderful.

In other thoughts, the funniest guy on Twitter, Bridger Winegar, posted this video yesterday and I just had to share it with you:

)

So anyway, what's new with you guys?

Happy Wednesday!

Remember me?

I'm baaaaaaackkk!

That is definitely the longest I've gone without blogging. I came down with pneumonia so bad I pretty much dropped off the face of the earth for the past two weeks!  It was a long recovery, with periods where there seemed to be no improvement whatsoever. But I'm feeling a ton better now and am back to life.

While I was sick, I slept a lot, watched a lot of Netflix, read some, and tried not to feel too stressed out. Being sick is stressful! Life goes on without you when you're sick, as it should, but it's stressful to not be a part of it. Especially because parts of it demand you continue to participate.

I had to avoid watching anything too funny while I was sick because even laughing a little bit would cause a coughing fit. Adele Dazeem almost put my recovery back several days. Remember that? When John Travolta announced Idina Menzel and called her Adele Dazeem? I laughed about that for at least two days.  It was really bad. The coughing was too much. I had to just stop thinking about Adele Dazeem. That was no small task but I eventually managed it.

Since comedies were out of the question, I watched some drama series on Netflix to pass the time in bed. One is called "Call the Midwife." Lots of friends had recommended this to me and they were right - the show is so good.

It takes place in the late 1950's in London and follows the lives of the nuns and midwives who attend to a bad section of town. It's completely charming and funny and sweet and sad. And the babies! There are so many cute babies! My heart melted.

The next show I watched is called "Hell on Wheels." It's about a mobile community by the same name that built the first transcontinental railroad after the Civil War. This show might not be for everyone (violent and kind of raw) but I loved it. I was completely hooked and now I can't wait for the new season.

Once I finished this series, I started looking for another, and based on the reviews I thought I'd give The Walking Dead a chance. I'm not the slightest bit interested in zombies, but I'd heard good things so I thought why not. And honestly, even though I watched several seasons, I do not get the appeal of this show. I just kept watching to see if it would get better. The characters, in my opinion, are not the slightest bit interesting. And any time you think a new character might be interesting, they get killed off.

Another frustration with the show is that it's basically only about the characters constantly running from zombies. There's no real research or understanding about why people are turning into zombies, and there's no global look at how the plague is playing out in other areas. It's just a nightmare. Running running running. And the guts. Guts everywhere. Very little character development. And the people we're supposed to care about are hard to care about. Basically only two people on the show are even kind of likable.

Ok, I'm done. I give The Walking Dead a big "meh."

And there you have it. My reviews of three non-comedies. Now that I'm healthier and it's getting warmer (in theory), I will probably be watching less tv. But I'm always open to more recommendations, so if you have any, please pass them on!

Thank you so much to all of you who checked in on me, sent me cookies and other surprises, and took care of me while I was recuperating. It meant so much to me! I am blessed.

And now that I'm feeling better, be prepared for more frequent blog posts. I still have a lot to say on the important issues in life (like Full House, crafting, and Buzzfeed articles)!

Full House Without __________

After watching one of the best youtube videos I've ever seen yesterday, "Full House Without Michelle," (seen below)

my coworker and I had a conversation about which Full house character we would get rid of if we had to. Without much thought or debate, we both easily settled on Joey. Reasons:

1. "Cut it out" isn't funny now and it never was.
2. Did I mention his "comedy"? Painful.
3. The voice immitations. Over done. Popeye was not relevant in the 80's. Or 90's. Stop with the voice.
4. The sweaters. I don't understand them. Was he trying to compete with Bill Cosby?
5. His girlfriends. Remember that girlfriend who was also a "comedian" and had that SUPER annoying little girl voice? She totally took over Joey and Jesse's radio show that one day. She wasn't even funny! Maybe that's why they were compatible. (See #2)
6. I can't emphasis this enough: "Cut it out." No. I won't cut it out. You cut it out.

It's not like we hate Joey. We would just kick him out first.

Reason's Joey's ok:

1. That time he let Stephanie and DJ stay up late to see Tiffany live in Tokyo (though that had bad consequences).
2. Dave Coulier is from Michigan.
3. Good with the girls. And Comet.

I made some "Joey's sweaters" collages to remind you just how bad they were. This is just a small percentage of his awful wardrobe:

Which member of the Full House family would you get rid of if you had to?

Weds... er, Thursday Thoughts

Oops.... Kinda missed Wednesday Thoughts yesterday. The day was super busy and just kind of got away from me. Let's just pretend it's Wednesday at 36 o'clock.

My grandma is starting to get dementia. It comes and goes. Sometimes she's completely lucid. Other times she's really confused.  This is a conversation I had with her when she called me at 1:30 Tuesday night:

Grandma: where is everyone?
Me: In bed, grandma. It's 1:30 in the morning.
Grandma: I'm here all by myself!
Me: Yes, because it's the middle of the night. Go back to sleep.
Grandma: No one has been here all day.
Me: Grandma, my mom was there in the evening, then she went home and went to bed. She'll be back to see you tomorrow.
Grandma: No one told me they wouldn't be here!
Me: She was there, and she'll be back. It's the middle of the night. Go back to bed.
Grandma (clearly annoyed and NOT believing me): I guess I'll just go back to bed then.
Me: Go back to bed. Go to sleep. It's 1:30 in the morning. People will be over to see you tomorrow.
Grandma: Fine.
Click.

Poor grandma. When she's lucid she's really frustrated that her brain is short-circuiting.

In other thoughts, we had a bit of a thaw yesterday. Just enough to fill the sidewalks with water which then froze again. But fissures formed in the ice everywhere and the sound of running water made me hopeful. In fact, it got up to around 40 degrees, which honestly almost felt uncomfortably warm! (Don't worry, I'll adjust. That is NOT a complaint!)

So, are any of you into the Olympics? Yeah, me neither. I think the reason I feel this way is because I get too nervous for the Olympians. All those years of working out and preparing, and then they fall, or slip, or drop their partner.... It's just too much for my nerves! Obviously, most of them don't have embarrassing disasters. Most of them do wonderfully. But every now and then, disaster occurs and it's too much for me. I just want to hop a plane to Sochi and give them a batch of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and a big hug. And frankly, that flight is outside of my budget. So I just avoid the Olympics, for the most part.  Because I can't afford a sympathy flight to Sochi.

Lastly, in Weds Thursday thoughts, last night around 11:30, I was feeling kinda guilty for not writing Weds. Thoughts. Why? Because there is one person who often tells me she is waiting for it, and looks forward to it. It's so nice for me to know there's someone out there who looks forward to posts! So I am going to give a special shout-out to Sarah L.! I wrote a special poem for you, Sarah:

Thank you for being a friend.
Traveled down the road, and back again.
Your heart is true. You're a pal and a confidant.
And if you threw a party, invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say:
Thank you for being a friend.

Happy Thursday!

Rejected Candy Hearts

Last night on Twitter, I noticed a hashtag game going on. The hashtag was "rejected candy hearts." You know those chalky, gross candy hearts that are forced on us in our most vulnerable state (half way through winter) and have those dumb or racy messages on them? Those are the ones we're talking about here.

Some of them were pretty funny. Here are some examples:

"I'm not famous anymore #RejectedCandyHearts" - @jeffminston

"My eyes are up here #RejectedCandyHearts" - @ImFordTough

"Thanks for birthing me #RejectedCandyHearts" - @imbrucetheshark

"I have plenty more in my van #RejectedCandyHearts" - @BarrettAll

"Help I'm trapped in a candy heart factory please send help #RejectedCandyHearts" - @Igotssmarts

"Real elf heart #RejectedCandyHearts" - @Thing_Finder

I thought it would be fun to join in on the fun, so I made some myself. Here they are:

What are your rejected candy heart ideas?
